The involvement of the Crookes family in the South African sugar industry was initiated in the 1860s when Samuel Crookes first planted cane at Renishaw on the KwaZulu- Natal South Coast. Since then the family has established a proud tradition in the development of the industry. Crookes Brothers was incorporated in 1913 to take over and manage part of the family interests and in 1948 the company was listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange.
The Crookes Brothers group today produces a range of primary agricultural products, with sugar cane being the largest contributor to both revenue and profits. The group also farms bananas, deciduous fruit, grain and sheep on properties located in South Africa, Swaziland and Zambia.
The success of our business model depends on producing quality agricultural products in an efficient and cost effective manner and is achieved by applying appropriate technology and best practice farming methods to achieve optimal results from a portfolio of quality farms under our management.
At Crookes Brothers we are proud of our heritage and maintain the highest standards of integrity, respect and transparency in dealing with all stakeholders. We are committed to the upliftment of the communities in which we operate and support efforts to transform the agricultural sector. The group aims to be an employer of choice, providing a working environment that is challenging and rewarding, free of discrimination based on race or gender. A culture of training and development is maintained to provide scope for employees to achieve their individual goals and potential.
It is our mission to maintain and build on our position as a major player in the agricultural sector in southern Africa without compromising our values, culture and legacy. |
